Jacksonville Flying Service works together with Coastal Carolina Community College to present the ground schools shown on this page. Students will have the opportunity to concurrently complete the flight training required for a private pilot certificate or an instrument rating. The cost of the flight training is not included in the tuition for the ground school.

Private Pilot Ground School

This course will provide you with the aeronautical knowledge required of a safe, competent private pilot. During the course you will study the basics of aerodynamic theory, the flight environment, the national airspace system and air traffic control procedures, basic weather theory, weather reports and forecasts, the Federal Aviation Regulations, airplane performance, VFR cross-country navigation planning and techniques, aeronautical decision making, physiology of flight and safe flying practices. When you complete this course you will be prepared to pass the FAA Private Pilot Airman Knowledge Test.

Class Times: Mon and Wed 6:00 - 9:00 pm

Instrument Rating Ground School

This course will provide you with the aeronautical knowledge required of a safe, competent instrument (airplane) pilot. During the course you will study physiology as it applies to flight by reference to the instruments, flight and navigation instruments, the use of departure, en route, arrival and approach charts and procedures, air traffic control procedures, and meteorology, flight planning, and decision making as they apply to the instrument rated pilot. When you complete this course you will be prepared to pass the FAA Instrument (Airplane) Airman Knowledge Test.

Class Times: Tues and Thurs 6:30 - 9:30 pm

Prerequisite: You must have taken, and passed, the FAA Private Pilot Written Exam within the last 24 months, or hold a Private Pilot Certificate.

Note: Minimum class size is 4 students.
