Learning to fly at Jacksonville Flying service is easy, fast, and fun! We have an excellent selection of FAA Approved Certified Flight Instructors.

We are a Part 141 Certified Flight School that offers Private Pilot training, Instrument training, Commercial Pilot training, CFI training, Multi-Engine training as well as Advanced Endorsements, Biennial Flight Reviews and a Ground School offered in conjuction with Coastal Carolina Community College.


We also offer training/checkouts in a Glass cockpit Cessna 172!

For eligible veterans, we are a VA approved flight school that offers up to 60% reimbursement on flight training costs!

~Private Pilot Training~

A private pilot rating allows you to fly VFR (under visual flight rules.) To obtain a private pilot license, you must be at least 17 years old and complete the JFS Tile 14 CFR Part 141 syllabus which requires the minimum times shown below. The nationwide average to prepare for your FAA checkride is approximately 65-70 hours of flight time. The purpose of this course is to prepare you for the FAA Private Pilot examination composed of a written examination, oral, and flight examination with an FAA-designated examiner.

~Instrument Training~

Tired of not flying because of the bad weather?  An instrument rating allows you to fly when visibility is poor and clouds are low in the sky. It is the perfect “next step” after achieving your Private Pilot License. Not only will it improve your skills as a pilot, it will also increase your confidence. To obtain this rating, you must complete the syllabus created by Jeppesen. You then must pass an FAA examination composed of a written, oral, and flight examination

~Commercial Pilot Training~

Ready to be paid for your flying? Then come on in and receive your Commercial Certification. This course will hone in your precise flying abilities and prepare you for the world of for hire flying. To be eligible for the rights of a commercial pilot, you must be at least 18 years old, and complete our 141 approved syllabus produced by Jeppesen. You then must pass a written examination, oral, and flight examination.

Ready to learn to fly faster, more advanced aircraft? Then come on out and get your multi-engine rating. This rating is an add-on that allows you to fly an aircraft with two or more engines. Learning to fly these aircraft is both fun and challenging and will enhance your overall skill and confidence greatly

~Certified Flight Instructor Training~

Want to teach others to fly, to give back the gift of aviation? Then come to JFS to get your Certified Flight Instructor certificate. To become a Certified Flight Instructor, you must be 18 years old and hold a commercial certificate with an instrument rating. You then must pass a written examination, oral, and flight examination

~Certified Flight Instructor Instrument~

Further your instructor abilities and ratings by becoming a CFII, allowing you to teach students how to fly in instrument conditions. This rating will enable you to teach students seeking their instrument certification, as well as give periodic reviews to instrument rated pilots.

~Multi-Engine Instructor~

With your CFI you can teach students to fly single-engine aircraft, by achieving your multi-engine instructor you can also teach people to fly multi-engine aircraft such as our newly restored Beechcraft 76 Duchess.

~Private Pilot Ground School~

Offered through Coastal Carolina Community College’s (CCCC) continuing education department, the pilot ground school consists of 72 hours of ground instruction, satisfying the ground requirement for the private pilot certification. The course cost is $175 and sign-up is done with CCCC. Classes are held three times pre year (spring, summer and fall). Classes meet at JFS on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-9pm.. ~Instrument Ground School~

~Advanced Endorsements~

~Complex Endorsement~

Complex rating allows you to fly airplanes with a constant speed propeller and retractable landing gear. To earn a complex rating, you must receive ground and flight training from an authorized instructor in a complex airplane and then receive a one-time endorsement in your logbook. You may hold either a private or commercial license. JFS conducts complex training in our Cardinal RG and our Duchess

~High Performance Endorsement~

A high performance endorsement is required to operate aircraft equipped with an engine of more than 200 horsepower. You must receive ground and flight training from an authorized instructor in a high performance airplane and then receive a one-time endorsement in your logbook. You may hold either a private or commercial license to add this endorsement. JFS does have a high performance- endorsed instructor on staff and we would be happy to train you in your aircraft.

~Tailwheel Endorsement~

A tailwheel endorsement is required to operate aircraft equipped with a tailwheel. You must receive ground and flight training from an authorized instructor in a tailwheel airplane and then receive a one-time endorsement in your logbook. You may hold either a private or commercial license to add this. JFS does have a tailwheel-endorsed instructor on staff and we would be happy to train you in your aircraft.
